204 villages in Albay still without light

09 November 2006

LEGAZPI CITY—Some 204 barangays in Albay, or about 30 percent of the province, were still waiting for power to be restored as of Monday after typhoon “Milenyo” left the hard-hit province totally powerless last Sept. 27.

Joe Zamora, supervising director of the Albay Electric Cooperative (Aleco), said Aleco had already spent more than P51 million for the restoration efforts and that the P55 million calamity assistance pledged by Malacañang might not be enough.

Aleco had already received P9.8 million but the amount was still untouched as some documents were still being processed. Aleco targets power to be restored before November ends. Ephraim Aguilar, Inquirer Southern Luzon
