‘Queenie’ strands passengers in Bicol

LEGAZPI CITY—A total of 334 passengers, 18 vehicles, and four sea vessels were stranded in some areas in the Bicol region because of typhoon “Queenie,” the Office of Civil Defense-Bicol said yesterday.

In Tabaco City, 325 passengers, 11 trucks, four buses and three sea vessels were stranded as storm signal No. 1 was hoisted over Catanduanes and Camarines.

The Philippine Atmostpheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration hoisted storm signal No. 3 in Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, and Isabela as of 4:30 p.m. yesterday.

Signal No. 2 was raised over northern Quezon, Polilio Island, Northern Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Ifugao, Ilocos Sur, Mt. Province, Kalinga, and Southern Cagayan.

Quezon, Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga, Zambales, Ilocos Norte, Abra, Apayao, and Cagayan were under storm signal No. 1

Queenie increased its threat to Northern and Central Luzon at 4:30 p.m. yesterday with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.

It was moving westward at 24 kph and was expected to make landfall over Aurora, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Pangasinan this morning (Saturday) and over Iba, Zambales this afternoon. Ephraim Aguilar, Inquirer Southern Luzon
